House of Insurance Society "Rossia"
This building was designed by architect N. Proskurnin in the years 1899-1902. It was mean to house luxurious rental apartments.
Two buildings linked by a fence in wrought iron were erected. Their architecture was to remind of the high Italian Renaissance style. French architect Le Corbusier designated House of Insurance Society “Rossia” as the most beautiful house in Moscow. Unfortunately its domes and the top of its towers were later destroyed. This did not keep the house from becoming famous for having the latest technologies and modern comfort.
During Soviet times, the house hosted many organizations as well as luxurious apartments for the apparatchiks. Many of these flats were renovated after the end of the USSR. They are now available for the Russian well-offs.
