Maxim Gorky Museum
This museum is housed in a former Gagarin princes mansion built in 1827 by architect Gilardi.
Opened in November 1937 its primary goal was to preserve the creative heritage of Great Russian writer Maxim Gorky (1868-1936). Later it became the Gorky Institute of World Literature. Its collection now contains seventy-five thousand pieces, in addition to the strictly memorial eighty thousand items.
